The conference was held in October 2026 at Simon Fraser University (Downtown Campus), Vancouver, Canada. The installation took the form of a series of scroll-based prints hung against the windows in a corridor at Simon Fraser University’s Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre.

The imagery is composed of enlarged digitized scans of small analog photographic prints created during an ongoing series of site-responsive community workshops known as Marking Time With(in) the Water. Each scroll contains a subset of the 428 images cocreated with community members in relation to eight bodies of water over more than five years. This shared, place-based experience holds together the emotive, physical, and ephemeral through communal witnessing of the unpredictable visual imprints that emerge, made meaningful through their togetherness.

The SSA is a member-funded nonprofit that supports the international scholarly and artistic study of affect, producing both print and online media, including the SSA’s peer-reviewed and open access publications. Through events like conferences and workshops, publishing, social media, infrastructures of feeling, and non-institutional modes of mentorship, SSA aims to shake up existing structures and practices and foster a lively and engaged local and international community of affect study: discipline-specific, interdisciplinary, and non-academic inquiry that attends to those near-imperceptible, too-intense, interstitial, or in-the-making forces and feelings that make up our worlds.
